It could be my last Asian Games: Sharath Kamal

8 Upcoming Hyundai Cars: New Santro, Carlino, Creta, Grand i10 & More

Hyundai is set to launch eight new cars in the next three years and all of these would be either new or replacement models

Hyundai is planning a major overhaul of its current model line-up for the Indian market in the next three years. The carmaker has announced that it will launch eight new cars by 2020. Three of the eight upcoming cars -- the AH2 hatchback (2018 Santro), QXi sub-4m SUV (based on the Carlino concept) and Kona Electric SUV -- will be launched before we bid goodbye to 2019. Hyundai’s MD & CEO, YK Koo, has now confirmed that the rest of the cars will be replacement models and not facelift or cosmetic updates of existing ones.

In a recent interview, he told CarDekho, “We are planning to launch eight new models within the next three years. Out of the eight, five will replace current cars from our portfolio. And out of the eight, one will be an all-electric SUV, while two models are the AH2 and QXi small SUV. So out of the eight, two are new segment products and one is an EV, while the other five will replace the current models.”

If you look at Hyundai’s current model lineup in India, the Elantra, Tucson and the Verna won’t see a generation change in the next couple of years. The Tucson facelift was revealed earlier this year (overseas) and the Elantra facelift was spied (outside India) recently. The Verna also received a generation change in 2017. So, these products should only get mid-life updates in India in the next couple of years.

That leaves Hyundai with six nameplates to transform from scratch -- the Eon, Grand i10, Xcent, the Elite i20, i20 Active and the Creta. We initially thought that Hyundai might discontinue the Eon once the AH2 hatchback, which might be called Santro, settles in the market. However, Koo clarified that the Eon won’t be discontinued. If Hyundai is to continue with the Eon post 2020, then it will have to undergo a structural change to pass the upcoming BNVSAP (Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program) crash test norms, which only hints towards a generation change.

Hyundai updated (introduced facelift of) the Grand i10 and Xcent in 2017, and the Elite i20 and Creta in 2018. So these cars might see a generation change in the same order. We know for a fact that the next-gen Creta will share its platform and engines with the upcoming Kia SP Concept-based SUV. The SP Concept is based on a reworked Creta platform and will be offered with BSVI petrol and diesel engines. The SP Concept-based Kia SUV will be launched in September 2019.

Since the i20 Active only received a dual-tone paint-job and feature updates in 2018, Hyundai might introduce yet another update along the lines of the 2018 Elite i20 facelift in the near future and give it a full-cycle refresh only after it’s done with launching these eight products in India.

The 8 models that we expect Hyundai to introduce in the next 3 years are:

Car name

Expected launch

2018 Hyundai Santro (AH2 hatchback)

October 2018 (confirmed)

Hyundai Carlino (QXi)

April 2019 (confirmed)

Hyundai Kona (electric SUV)

Second half of 2019 (confirmed)

New Eon

2019

New Grand i10

2020

New Xcent

2020

New Elite i20

2020

New Creta

2021

Read More on : Grand i10 diesel

This Story has not been edited by ABP News. Ready to relinquish Asiad contingent role if law demands: Brij Bhushan

New Delhi [India] July 30 (ANI): Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who was appointed Chef de Mission of India's Asiad contingent for the upcoming Asian Games by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), said that if the law does not allow him to hold the position then he is ready to relinquish the role.

The comment came after the IOA's decision was widely criticized owing to a number of criminal charges on Brij Bhushan.

Speaking to ANI, Bhushan said, "I am not convicted in any of the cases so far, I don't care what people say or write, if there is any law which still prevents me from going, then I will not go."

According to media reports, Brij Bhushan, who is also a Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament from Uttar Pradesh's Kaiserganj, admitted to have been charged under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 147, 148 (rioting) and 365 (attempt to murder) in his 2014 election affidavit.

He was, reportedly, also named as one of the accused in the 1992 Babri Masjid case.

Defending his selection for the position, Bhushan said that the Babri Masjid case is still pending before the Supreme Court and that the other accused in the case are holding government positions.

"Am I the only one to be blamed?" he asked.

Talking about the murder case against him, the Member of Parliament said that the case was filed by one of his political rivals and he himself refused to testify against him in the court.

The case is still pending and he is not convicted in any of the cases filed against him, Bhushan added.

The president further asserted that he was given the responsibility by the IOA as he has proved himself in the past while also running the academy in a transparent manner.

Meanwhile, Rajkumar Sacheti, who has also been appointed as in charge of India's Asiad squad, is also under investigation for his alleged role in 2010 Commonwealth Games scam.

Asian Games is slated to take place from August 18 to September 2 in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia. Badminton World C'ship: Prannoy eases into second round

Nanjing [China], July 30 (ANI): Ace Indian shuttler HS Prannoy kicked off his campaign at the ongoing Badminton World Championship with a thumping straight games win over Abhinav Manota of New Zealand in the opening round here at Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre on Monday.

The 25-year-old outclassed his New Zealand opponent Manota 21-12, 21-11 in a one-sided first-round clash that lasted 28 minutes.

Prannoy, who missed last year's World Championship owing to an injury, completely dominated the match right from the onset and gave no chances of revival to Manota in a two-game match.

Taking the opening serve, Prannoy took the initial lead and by the mid-game interval, he was leading the first game 11-4.

A series of unforced errors by Manota gave the Indian shuttler the opportunity to settle in and soon he was way out of reach of the New Zealand player after gaining a good lead of nine points.

Back-to-back smashes from the eleventh-seeded Indian and Manota's failure to pose any challenge helped Prannoy win the first game 21-12 in 14 minutes.

Prannoy took the opening serve in the second game as well and stunned his opponent by earning four back to back points.

Capitalizing on the opening game, Prannoy took the initial lead of five points and soon the scoreline read 16-8 in favour of the Indian shuttler.

Manota hit back with a strong rally but the effort was not enough to get past Prannoy who was on a roll.

Eventually, Prannoy registered a convincing 21-11 win in the second game to head into the second round of the championship.

Meanwhile, ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal will play her opening match of the tournament on July 31. Medal rush for Indian shuttlers at Russia Open

Vladivostok [Russia], July 30 (ANI): Indian shuttler Sourabh Verma on Sunday bagged the gold medal in the men's singles event, with the young mixed doubles duo of Rohan Kapoor and Kuhoo Garg bringing home the silver medal in the Russia Open.

This follows Lakshya Sen's recent gold medal-winning performance at the Asian Juniors in Jakarta.

The Indian shuttlers continued to put up a stellar display, which was capped by sixth-seeded Sourabh, scripting a comeback win to triumph over Japan's Koki Watanabe in the summit clash.

Having lost the first game 18-21, he prevailed in the following two registering a 21-12, 21-17 scoreline to clinch his first title of the season in a thriller that lasted exactly an hour.

In the first game, a lackluster beginning saw Sourabh trailing 5-11, even though Watanabe managed only a slender lead initially.

Yet, the former national champion showed great character and leveled at 18-18 before the world No 119 Japanese finished emphatically.

Sourabh, eager to keep himself in the hunt for the medal, looked much more composed and with his effective half-court smashes and an equally strong net play, maintained the lead to take the second game 21-12.

Watanabe looked resolute to not let his guard down in the decider, surging with an early lead of 9-3. However, Sourav staged a fine recovery from nowhere and exhibiting his prowess at rallies, re-established the lead, thanks to some clinical baseline smashes and decisive drops.

The Japanese wilted under pressure and made several unforced errors which only helped the Indian's cause, helping Sourabh clinch the game and the match at 21-17.

Sourabh, who won the recent All India Senior National ranking tournament to make the cut for the Asian Games squad said, "It feels good to win the title and I am very satisfied with my performance here. I played my natural game and am happy how the results panned out."

"This win will keep my morale high for the Jakarta Games next month," he added

Earlier, Kuhoo Garg and Rohan Kapoor, who had won the silver at the Lagos International last week, continued their sublime form to repeat the success at the Russian Open.

They put up a valiant effort but succumbed 19-21, 17-21 to the Russian- Japanese combination of Vladimir Ivanon and Min Kyung Kim in the final.

The young pair is now all set to look forward to making their maiden appearance at the World Championships.

Congratulating the players for their fine show, Badminton Association of India Secretary General, Ajay K. Singhania said, "Our primary goal is to promote and give exposure to more youngsters. The recent performances of our younger lot are an indication that we are headed in the right direction. It is really commendable. We will see the participation of 25 players in the World Championship, which again is a good sign for Indian badminton." We are not wealthy and do not have any land. It is difficult to get good medical care," said Bhattal's wife.

A gold medal winner in the 1978 Asian Games in Bangkok, and the 1979 Asian Track and Field Championships in Tokyo, Bhattal was also awarded the Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime Achievement in Sports and Games by then President Pratibha Patil in August 2008.
